Mello Hello - Making friends the easy way, just MelloHello!

Community Guidelines

INTRODUCTION

At MelloHello, our goal is to create a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable space where people can connect over shared interests, build real communities, and feel welcomed - whether they’re joining a group, attending an event, or just having a friendly chat. To make this possible, we ask everyone to follow a few simple but important rules about how we interact with one another.

These Community Guidelines are here to help set the tone for respectful and responsible behaviour on the App. They apply to all users, whether you're messaging someone privately, participating in group discussions, running an event, or engaging with community posts. Every interaction on MelloHello should reflect our shared commitment to kindness, honesty, and safety.

By using MelloHello, you agree to follow these guidelines along with our Terms of Use, Business Terms of Service, and Privacy Policy. We expect every user to help protect the integrity of the platform - and that means speaking up if something feels off, setting healthy boundaries, and treating others the way you’d want to be treated.

These guidelines apply to all areas of the App - including personal profiles, community spaces, business pages, and events - and are essential to keeping MelloHello a positive place for everyone. Let’s build a better space together.

1. Our Values and What We Expect: We believe in respect, kindness, and inclusivity. Everyone has the right to feel safe and heard on MelloHello. We expect users to:

  • Treat others with courtesy, even when disagreeing. Be constructive, not confrontational.
  • Communicate honestly and clearly. Misrepresentation and vague or misleading communication erodes trust.
  • Help create welcoming communities by including newcomers and valuing diverse voices.
  • Respect differences and personal boundaries. Don't assume everyone shares your beliefs or comfort levels.

2. Impersonation and Identity Misuse: You must not impersonate another person, public figure, business, or organisation on MelloHello. This includes using someone else’s name, photos, brand, or profile details in a misleading way - whether to deceive, gain attention, or manipulate users. Creating fake accounts, posing as MelloHello staff, or misrepresenting your role in a group, event, or business listing is strictly prohibited. Users must use their own identity and be truthful about who they are. Any form of identity misuse may result in immediate suspension or permanent removal from the App.

3. Respectful Communication: All interactions, whether public or private, must be respectful. Avoid aggressive, confrontational, or sarcastic tones that may intimidate or offend others. Harassment, name-calling, personal attacks, or passive-aggressive remarks will not be tolerated. Always consider the impact of your words on others and strive to maintain a positive tone, even in disagreement.

4. Safety and Personal Boundaries:

  • Respect personal space: Do not pressure anyone into sharing private details such as their full name, address, phone number, workplace, or personal photos. These should only be shared voluntarily and with trust.
  • No means no: If someone doesn’t respond to your message, declines an invite, or says they’re uncomfortable, respect that immediately. Repeated follow-ups or trying to change their mind is not acceptable.
  • Avoid intrusive behaviour: Don’t try to “test boundaries” by making someone uncomfortable, even as a joke. What seems light to one person can feel threatening to another.
  • Safe in-person interactions: If meeting up through the App, be respectful, clear about plans, and never record or photograph someone without their consent.
  • Stop when asked: If someone tells you directly or indirectly to stop contacting them, you must stop. Continued messaging may be considered harassment.
  • Trust your instincts: If something feels off, you are encouraged to block, report, or disengage without needing to justify yourself.

5. Zero Tolerance for Harassment or Abuse: We do not tolerate any form of harassment, bullying, or abuse on MelloHello. This includes repeated unwanted messages, mocking, stalking, threats, or any behaviour intended to make others feel unsafe, fearful, or unwelcome. Harassment is taken seriously and may result in immediate removal from the platform and, where appropriate, referral to law enforcement.

6. Discrimination and Hate Speech: MelloHello is an inclusive space. You may not post or promote content that insults, excludes, or threatens anyone based on their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, nationality, or any other protected characteristic. This includes hate symbols, slurs, derogatory jokes, and dog-whistle terms. We reserve the right to remove content and suspend accounts that promote divisiveness or hate.

7. Content Sharing Rules:

  • Keep it respectful and appropriate: All content - including posts, images, videos, event details, and group discussions - must be suitable for a general audience. Do not post anything violent, hateful, offensive, or sexually explicit.
  • Stay on topic: Share content that matches the purpose of the group, event, or conversation. Off-topic posts can distract and disrupt the community experience.
  • Avoid spreading false or misleading content: Do not share information that is knowingly inaccurate, exaggerated, or likely to cause confusion or harm. This includes fake events, false business claims, and misleading promotional content.
  • No copyrighted material without permission: Only share photos, music, videos, or designs that you own or have the right to use. Using someone else’s work without permission may result in removal of content or account action.
  • Do not promote harmful activities: Content that encourages unsafe behavior - such as drug use, dangerous stunts, or illegal actions - is strictly prohibited.
  • Avoid shock or distress: Graphic content meant to provoke, offend, or emotionally disturb others (such as images of injuries, cruelty, or traumatic events) is not allowed.
  • Be mindful of tone and intent: Even if your content is meant to be funny or sarcastic, consider how it might be received by others. What seems like a joke to one person may feel offensive or hurtful to someone else.

8. Adult Content and Inappropriate Behaviour: MelloHello is not intended for adult or sexual content. Posting nudity, sexually suggestive images or text, or making sexual advances is not allowed. This applies across all features of the App - including messages, group chats, events, and business listings. Inappropriate gestures, pickup lines, or innuendos may lead to immediate account action.

9. Misleading, False, or Harmful Information: Do not use MelloHello to mislead others or promote false narratives. This includes impersonating someone else, using fake names or photos, exaggerating business or event offerings, or spreading misinformation. Content that may cause harm - such as fake health claims, scam offers, or inciting fear - will be removed without warning.

10. Spam, Promotions, and Unauthorised Advertising You must not send unsolicited promotions, spam others with links, or post repetitive promotional content in unrelated spaces. If you’re a business user, you may only promote your services in approved sections and must follow our Business Terms of Service. Users posting referral links, affiliate codes, or excessive self-promotion without permission may have their posts removed or their accounts restricted.

11. Respect for Privacy and Personal Information: Respect other users’ privacy at all times. Do not share anyone’s personal information without their clear permission. This includes names, photos, screenshots of conversations, locations, or contact details. Even sharing publicly visible content in a way that targets or embarrasses someone is not acceptable.

12. Event Participation Etiquette: When attending an event organised through the App, be punctual, respectful, and mindful of others’ time and space. Follow the organiser’s rules, behave appropriately, and report any uncomfortable or unsafe behaviour. If you RSVP to an event but can no longer attend, cancel in advance. Repeated no-shows or disruptive conduct may result in restrictions.

13. Use of Groups and Community Spaces: Groups are designed for genuine discussion and connection. Stay on topic, avoid dominating discussions, and respect group admins and their guidelines. Don’t derail conversations or turn groups into personal promotion channels. Group admins have the right to remove posts or users that disrupt the group’s purpose.

14. Reporting Concerns: We rely on our community to help keep MelloHello safe. If you see or experience something that violates these Guidelines, please report it through the in-App reporting tool or by emailing admin@mellohello.net. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team, and we take all concerns seriously, especially those involving user safety.

15. Consequences of Breaking the Rules:

  • Content removal: Posts, messages, or event listings that violate our Guidelines may be removed without warning.
  • Warnings: For minor or first-time violations, you may receive a warning and a reminder of the relevant rule.
  • Temporary suspension: If the behaviour continues or the violation is more serious, your account may be temporarily suspended. During this time, you will not be able to access any features of the App.
  • Permanent ban: Repeated, severe, or harmful violations may result in your account being permanently disabled and removed from the platform.
  • Immediate action without notice: For serious misconduct - such as harassment, threats, hate speech, or endangering another user’s safety - we may take immediate action without prior notice.
  • Reporting to authorities: If your actions involve illegal activity, threats to someone’s safety, or potential criminal behaviour, we may report the matter to law enforcement or other relevant authorities.
  • Business restrictions: Business accounts that violate advertising or content rules may have their listings removed or lose access to promotional tools.
  • Final decisions: All moderation actions are taken at the discretion of MelloHello’s team. While we strive for fairness, our decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

16. Changes to These Guidelines: We may update these Community Guidelines from time to time to reflect changes in our features, values, or legal obligations. When we make significant changes, we’ll let users know through the App or by email. By continuing to use the App, you agree to follow the latest version of these Guidelines.
